Sportives, racing, all day cruising, the Colnago CLX 3.0 does it all at an amazingly affordable price. Not often do Colnago offer a full bike, ready to race. Here they have and what a bike it is! First launched back in 2012 the CLX 3.0 has evolved into the must have mid range road bike. Using the same geometry as the top of the range M10 and C59 frames, in a sloping design for added comfort, this two-piece monocoque frame is both incredibly stiff and responsive. The frame is revolutionary in the Colnago brand. Sloping geometry, curved seatstays and a beefy headtube, bottom bracket area and chainstays minimise road buzz and vibrations, providing an immensely comfortable ride. Slightly longer seatstays, toptube and taller headtube allow for all day comfort, ideal for gran fondo sportives. The higher headtube also means less spacers are needed under the stem, giving a cleaner look to the bike. The cross section is square shaped for immense stiffness and power delivery.

All this talk of comfort is great but you will be pleased to know when you want this bike to perform it turns into a beast, like Jeckll and Hyde the CLX 3.0 has a split personality. It can be an all day cruiser then at a turn of the pedals becomes a ferocious race ready steed. An ultra stiff frame with pin sharp handling due to a carbon fork with tapered steerer.

A semi integrated C-HS1 headset and internal rear brake cable routing adds to the clean, flowing design.

This may be a mid range priced road bike but that does not mean it has a mid range paint scheme. Colnago are renowned for their stunning designs and no more so than with the CLX 3.0, which comes with all the usual high quality Colnago graphics, you expect from the Italian masters of bike building.

This bike corners like it is on rails, is comfortable over nearly any terrain and climbs like a dream, all helped along by the latest Shimano Ultegra 11 speed groupset. Providing smooth, unflustered shifting and reliability. Tektro brakes provided solid modulation and stopping power.

The front cockpit carries on the Italian theme with Deda stem and handlebars, both incredibly stiff, light and in keeping with the Italian flair.

Colnago Artemis wheels are solid performers, stiff, reliable and look great against the Colnago’s paint scheme. Continental tyres are a very nice touch. Grippy, roll well and will be durable for many hassle free miles.

Selle Italia finishes off the Italian theme with a very cool X1 saddle, light and supportive.

A compact chainset means you have plenty of gears for tackling those mountain passes in the Alps, battling that headwind to your local café or sprinting up the final hundred metre drag at your local road race.
