Quarq SRAM Red 22 11R-130BCD Road Power meter GXP
This remodelled Quarq SRAM Red 22 Quarq 11R-130BCD Road Power meter GXP takes the company's lightweight philosophy even more seriously by introducing its Exogram™ hollow carbon crank arms to further reduce weight. This is combined with the GXP bottom bracket to further save weight without compromising performance.
So the Red 22 packaging is incredibly appealing, however it is the power meter element that comprises five strain gauges in the spider to give you the industry leading accuracy of +/- 1.5% that really adds to the interest here.
This information is then communicated to your head unit via ANT+ wireless, meaning your current head unit is most likely to already be compatible. Fortunately, the LED indicator will let you know when your devices' have paired. If not, then there are a vast number of options available to you, such as the Garmin 1000 featured below.
Besides the accuracy, the most exciting feature is the Power Balance technology. This gives you information on your power generation through both crank arms independent of one another, thus allowing you to spot weaknesses in each leg and therefore formulate a more targeted training regime.
Making a user-friendly power meter seems to have been a key component of the design process, and is something we can all appreciate. Changing the widely available CR2032 battery for yourself is a simple process, not involving a single tool. It is also something you should not have to do too often as you get a reported 300 hours of battery life. Furthermore, fixing and connecting additional cadence sensors is something that will be of no further concern to you, thanks to the built in AxCad accelerometer that provides precise cadence information.
The horrors of mid ride zeroing, to account for temperature fluctuations, are excitingly a thing of the past. Quarq have eliminated this with the introduction of its 10K dynamic temperature compensation feature, which automatically adjusts to minimise drift thanks to the unit's ability to monitor and respond to atmospheric conditions.
SRAM have further protected the unit from weather extremes by waterproofing it to a standard of IXP7. Roughly translated, this means it can be submerged up to one metre in water for thirty minutes. A little over the top, but very reassuring.
Thoroughly tested by the AG2R La Mondiale team, there really is no area that has been overlooked in the design of this Quarq SRAM Red 22 Quarq 11R-130BCD Road Power meter GXP.
