Designed specifically to be used with the Shimano Ultegra 11-speed groupset, the chain's inner plates have a SIL-TEC coating, which is a low friction PTFE treatment. This coating has been added to help the chain glide across the chainrings and sprockets, reducing frictional resistance and wear. Shimano has developed the outer plates to minimise the chances of chain suck, increasing reliability and reducing the chances of breakage.
