Cycling Jerseys
Our Top Five Picks
Cycling jerseys are some of the most versatile items of kit in a cyclist's wardrobe. From lightweight, highly breathable summer to technical autumn and spring garments, a trusty jersey can perform many different tasks. We have taken a closer look at five of our favourite jerseys for those colder, less predictable conditions.
1. Castelli Gabba ROS Short Sleeve Jersey
2. MAAP Vertical DWR Long Sleeve Jersey
3. Mavic Sequence Merino Womens Long Sleeve Jersey
4. Endura Pro SL Long Sleeve Jersey II
1. Castelli Gabba ROS Short Sleeve Jersey
As iconic cycling garments go the Castelli Gabba has achieved near legendary status. The go-to jersey for many pros, there have been many refinements made to the popular jersey since its launch back in 2010. The Gabba ROS is the fourth generation and promises to be more waterproof than ever. As well as offering increased wet weather protection, the Gabba is now also warmer, with the inclusion of Gore-Tex Infinium 205 Warm, a brushed waterproof fabric which offers excellent insulating properties as well.
Although warm, breathability has also been addressed with Gore-Tex Infinium 203 Stretch used on rear facing surfaces. As well as improving moisture wicking properties this also ensures flexibility is maintained. Protection doesn't just come in the form of fabrics though. A YKK Vislon zipper is covered to keep the elements out, while taped shoulder seams and a dropped tail add further covering.
2. MAAP Vertical DWR Long Sleeve Jersey
Far from your run of the mill long sleeve jersey, the MAAP Vertical DWR Long Sleeve Jersey uses a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment to deflect rain and spray. This treatment literally allows it to bead off the surface rather than soak in. More water resistant rather than fully waterproof, MAAP have avoided using a membrane, so breathability is not compromised.
The Signature Pro Fit has been used to optimise aerodynamics and allows you to wear a jacket over the top, without feeling restricted. Warmth has been addressed with a Jacquard fleece fabric and features such as the Raglan sleeve, reflective tape under the pockets and YKK lock zip make this a practical option for autumn, winter and spring use.
3. Mavic Sequence Merino Womens Long Sleeve Jersey
When conditions are variable, layering offers the most versatile solution for long days out in the saddle, allowing for items of clothing to be added or subtracted in order to achieve the ideal temperature. The Sequence Merino Womens Long Sleeve Jersey Jersey from Mavic is the perfect piece around which to base such a system, as the merino blend fabric works to both insulate and wick away any moisture, and is soft enough to be worn next to the skin in milder weather or over a base layer for added insulation in cooler conditions. If the temperature drops or rain sets in then simply add a lightweight jacket over the top.
4. Endura Pro SL Long Sleeve Jersey II
Made from 100% recycled fabric, Endura’s Pro SL Long Sleeve Jersey II is perfect for days when it’s not quite cold enough to be tucked up in a potentially sweaty membrane all day but a short sleeve jersey and arm warmers won’t quite cut it either. Use one of the three large rear pockets to carry a windproof jacket for protection against downhill induced windchill and enjoy the close-fitting freedom of movement and breathability that this piece brings.
5. Castelli Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve Jersey
A superbly though-out piece from Italian cycling legends Castelli, the Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve Jersey utilises GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® 205 Warm fabric on front-facing surfaces with taped critical seams and GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® 203 Stretch on rear-facing panels. This clever juxtaposition of different weight fabrics means that it has the close fit of a standard jersey, with great breathability and excellent weather protection.
