Top 5 Cycling Overshoes
For This Season
What stops you from cycling through the winter? The chances are your extremities suffering from the impenetrable elements are high on the list. Keeping your feet warm can feel like a difficult task but with advancements in technology and materials, many brands are now coming up with products, designed to significantly reduce that all too familiar feeling of cold and numb feet. We have taken a look at five of our favourite cycling overshoes, ready for when the conditions worsen.
1. ASSOS Winter Booties
Warmth without the bulk, ASSOS' Winter Booties are made from the highest quality fabrics, designed to make those cold days on the bike all the more bearable. Wind and rain-ready, the bootie's zip-free construction use raw-cut, seamless edges. This improves comfort and performance.
Talking technology, the NEOS MEDIUM three-layer thermo soft-shell construction incorporates a bonded PU membrane. This combination results in waterproofing down to -10 metres (should you wish to scuba dive mid-ride) and protection against the wind. Protection is further bolstered by the inclusion of Cordura fabric. Added to the toe area, this is complemented by Sens Tex, a low volume material that enhances movement and provides a second-skin-like feel for ultimate comfort.
2. Castelli Estremo Shoe Covers
For the coldest days and most challenging conditions, the Castelli Estremo Shoe Covers deliver on all fronts. Breathable, waterproof and water-resistant are all claims widely banded around when it comes to winter cycling clothing but Castelli back these bold claims up with technology. Gore-Tex Infinium ticks all three of these boxes, while Polartec PowerStretch Pro fleece makes up the inner lining.
Water seeping into your shoes is a sure-fire way to get you turning for home. A YKK AquaGuard zipper is designed to reduce the chances of this happening, creating a seal to keep moisture out. A shoe cover that will go the distance, Castelli have added a highly durable material to the underside to reduce wear.
3. Endura Freezing Point Overshoes
A fleece-lined overshoe with a neoprene construction, the Endura Freezing Point Overshoes come equipped with Kevlar soles and stitching to improve durability, while the reflective logo and zip panels ensure visibility out on the road is never in question.
The attention to detail on the Freezing Point Overshoe is really something to behold. The zip has been carefully designed, featuring a snapdown puller, to make taking the overshoe on and off a simple task, even when wearing gloves. The Velcro heel tab is another welcome finishing touch, allowing for a comfortable and snug fit.
3. Mavic Cosmic Pro H2O Vision Overshoes
It's safe to say there will be no missing the Mavic Cosmic Pro H2O Vision Overshoes. One of the most reflective overshoes on the market, it is not just the highly visible outer material that will catch your eye. Fully water and windproof, the Italian fabric used is stretchy, to allow you to easily pull the overshoes on and off, and also is soft, for next to skin comfort.
5. MAAP Deep Winter Neo Overshoes
They may hail from one of the hottest countries in the world but MAAP still knows a thing or two about protection from the elements. Made from Japanese neoprene, the MAAP Deep Winter Neo Overshoes use fully taped seams to good effect, keeping water out and warmth in. A zipperless construction saves weight and allows the overshoes to be pulled on, over your socks, and then, once your shoes are on, over those as well.
