Cervélo's all-new S5 takes the concept of an aero road bike to new levels. On the one hand it's a clear progression from the Soloist/S3 design but then there's the radical aerodynamic features that have merged into the design from the P3/P4 line.
The benchmark is a no-compromise aerodynamic road frame which benefits from all of Cervélo's latest technologies and advanced lay-ups.
The key new features of the design are:
Di2 Ready: The S5 frame is both mechanical and Di2/electronic ready out of the box.
Dropped downtube: this smoothes out the airflow from the fork to the frame and minimises turbulence behind the crown.
BBright: Cervélo's proven (on the R-series road frames) take on oversized bottom brackets and asymmetric chainstays makes for a lighter yet stiffer pedalling platform.
Extended cutout: the radical rear wheel cut-out smoothes out the airflow between the frame and the rear wheel. If it's good enough for the P4...
Shielded brake: the seat stay design has been created to shield the rear brake, one of the biggest causes of turbulence.
Multiple bottle positions: yes, your bottle affects the airflow so the S5 frameset has multiple bottle mount positions to allow maximum flexibility - why didn't anyone else ever think of this?
