Description
After 64 years of producing some of the most sought-after framesets in the industry, Colnago has released the Colnago C64 Art Decor Road Frameset with sloping geometry. A culmination of two years of research and development, the C64 features a number of small but significant updates over its predecessor to improve stiffness and ride quality, whilst reducing weight.
The C64's tubes and lugs are constructed from the finest quality carbon fibre and are entirely handmade in Italy. The finish is now lighter UD (unidirectional) instead of 3K carbon and the overall weight of the frameset comes in around 200 grams less than the C60. This is a bike that is equally as comfortable tackling gruelling alpine ascents as it is in the peloton and offers a stiff ride, efficient power transfer, and supreme handling.
The redesigned fork has an external rib shape with an internal rib in the steerer tube for improved rider comfort and rigidity. Housing the pivots for direct mount brakes and with a 5mm extension to the length, the fork allows extra tyre clearance and the dropouts are now full carbon.
The headtube is thinner and lighter while the shape has been altered for increased side stiffness. Additionally, the headset is based on the proven Concept model but with a revised upper cup material for reducing fatigue to the hands and arms.
Modelled on the C60 downtube, the lower portion narrows towards the bottom to match the rear triangle and achieve the perfect balance. With a recessed bottle cage area, two ribs are created around the middle which improves torsional stiffness. The other advantage of this new design is your bottle is hidden from the wind, reducing drag. If you want to build your bike up with a mechanical groupset, the cable stops are neatly positioned on the downtube, tucked behind the headtube.
One of the most significant changes is in the seat tube, which meets the seat tube lug to form a single piece, enhancing stiffness and reducing weight. An aerodynamic seatpost improves vertical compliance and has a 15mm offset as standard (although others can be purchased). It is secured via a hidden integrated clamp, with a co-moulded alloy bed and a removable part that is tightened from below.
The bottom bracket lug now has the cable guide moulded into it and provides a bigger radius for improved shifting, and is still designed around the ThreadFit82.5 bottom bracket which offers the reliability of a threaded system and the wider shell of a PressFit.
With the chainstays now a one-piece construction with the dropouts, vertical compliance is increased, yet there is no compromise on lateral stiffness, so power transfer is extremely efficient. Together with the asymmetric chainstays, you can be sure all your watts are translated into speed.
