Colnago C64 Road Semi-Integrated Disc Frameset (Sloping Geometry)
Colnago's newest addition to the flagship 'C' range, the C64 Road Semi-Integrated Disc Frameset with sloping geometry has come about following over two years of research and development, in celebration of the brand's 64th year. Featuring a number of updates from its predecessor the C60, this frameset is around 270 grams lighter with improved rigidity and vertical compliance, ensuring a supreme ride quality and enough comfort for long days in the saddle.
Fully handmade in Italy from the finest carbon fibre lugs and tubes, the 3K carbon finish has been replaced by lighter UD (unidirectional) carbon. The fork has been completely redesigned and with an external rib shape, you can be sure of enhanced front and side stiffness, while the internal rib makes it exceptionally strong. The brake housing can run from the stem into the C/D shaped steerer tube for clean and neat aesthetics. Staying with a 12mm thru-axle, this is now threaded to further reduce weight and the dropouts have a full carbon construction.
The headtube has a thinner construction for reduced weight, and the slightly revised shape improves side stiffness. The Concept's headset technology has been borrowed, while the material has been updated to a polymer consisting of carbon, nylon, and elastomers, resulting in improved vibration damping, ultimately delaying the onset of fatigue in the hands and arms.
With a design based on the C60, the downtube has been narrowed in the bottom portion for improved aesthetics in keeping with the rear triangle. A recessed bottle cage area creates two long ribs in the middle of the downtube for added torsional stiffness and to integrate the cage and bottle into the frame for a reduction in drag.
The seat tube and seat tube lug are now a single piece that makes the frame more rigid and keeps the weight down. The seat clamp is fully integrated and 'hidden', and a single removable part tightens from the bottom. Aside from a clean look, another benefit of this bottom-pull design is that it provides increased locking strength as the rider weight increases, holding the seatpost securely in place. The seat post itself has been modelled around the V2-R and dramatically increases vertical compliance compared to a round 31.6mm post.
Colnago have used their proven ThreadFit82.5 bottom bracket standard and the cable guide now moulds into the lug to save some extra grams and increase the radius for improved shifting performance.
The chainstays and dropouts are now a one-piece construction and vertical compliance is improved while the stiffness of the C60 rear triangle remains. This disc-brake frameset features threaded 12mm thru-axles and co-moulded flat-mount brake provisions, while the asymmetrical chainstays offer excellent power transfer. The seat stay is also designed around 28mm tyres for an enhanced ride.
This frameset is disc specific so is perfect for cyclists that want to take advantage of powerful braking, making it ideal for tackling fast descents and technical circuits in full confidence.
