Being the lightest road clincher that the company has ever fabricated, the Roval Alpinist CLX Disc Wheelset has pure climbing performance infused into its soul. Dancing up gruelling Alpine passes, surging on Ardennes style hills or hammering to the summit of the last climb on the Sunday group ride, the Alpinist CLX grants any rider a new sense of enthusiasm and vigour.

The rims feature a full carbon construction that has been refined via a meticulous research and design process to yield an optimum stiffness to weight ratio. Despite its relatively shallow depth, these rims are still extensively honed in the companies own wind tunnel to grant admirable aerodynamic performance. This lowered drag assists the rider on flat roads and spares precious energy for when the climbing kicks in. The rims also present a wide, 21mm internal rim width. This increased girth forces a tyre to sit with an optimum cross-sectional profile, which, in turn, lowers rolling resistance, improves cornering grip and awards more comfort.

Interestingly, Roval has opted to make the Alpinist CLX only compatible with clincher tyre and inner tube setups, without catering for tubeless tyres. This idea has been executed because it permits the lightest and fastest rim and tyre configuration to be realised. This concept would have otherwise been jeopardised by the extra plies of carbon required to counter the increased forces involved with a tubeless tyre setup.

The AeroFlange hubs complement the rims with their sculpted profile and wider spoke bracing angles. Combining with the revered DT Swiss Aerolite spokes and a traditional, meticulous hand-build, increased lateral rigidity is granted to bestow increased climbing prowess.

A rider weight limit of 109kg promotes the use of this ultimately light wheelset to a vast scope of riders, various riding styles and different power levels.
