Shimano Dura Ace 7800 Carbon Chainset 53/39

The Shimano Dura Ace carbon fibre chainset is a thing of beauty. Shimano started with an aluminium core to realize a lightweight yet very rigid construction. By using this technology, Shimano developed a chainset that combines the best of both materials. The aluminium frame ensures a stiff set-up for optimal power transfer while the carbon saves weight. In numbers: weight of this chainset is 609grams and it is 10% stiffer than the aluminium Dura-Ace chainset FC-7800 that is already famous for its rigidity.

FC-7800C has been developed with Shimano’s proven Hollowtech II technology with an integrated bottom bracket.

This state-of-the-art chainset is available in a 53/39T gear combination and a crank arm length of 172.5mm. Even though its classification is a 7800 chainset, it was designed specifically for Dura Ace 7900 use.

Shimano has twenty years of experience in the development of carbon fibre products, by using it in our high end fishing tackle range and also more recently for bicycle components such as Dura-Ace rims and shoe soles. Shimano did not use it in chainsets before, since their tests showed over and over again that by using carbon alone, in general the weight goes down but also the rigidity decreases. By using an aluminum core however, Shimano has managed now to develop a chainset that is lighter and more rigid at the same time.
