An award winning comedian and cycling fanatic, David O’Doherty is the perfect guest to show Matt Stephens around his hometown of Dublin for this charming episode of the Sigma Sports Café Ride.
David admits his obsession with classic racing bicycles is somewhat problematic as he struggles for storage space, but he puts them to great use by regularly riding to the Phoenix Park. No trip to the biggest city centre park in Europe is complete without a sighting of the famous herd of deer that reside there, but will Matt and David find them, or crash out along the way?
The Bike
Versatility was the name of the game when it came to choosing a bike for this Cafe Ride episode, as Matt found, something to excel over a range of terrains was a must. The Specialized Roubaix fitted the bill perfectly, with its relaxed yet planted geometry and the ability to fit wide tyres. As David's route was a proper Dublin-based adventure, the Roubaix provided the ideal platform for Matt to spend a day adventuring with the Irish comedian.
The Kit
The laughs may have been flowing as the pair explored some of David's favourite cycling haunts, but Matt's kit of choice was serious stuff. Decked out in a mixture of Universal Colours' Chroma and Mono ranges, Matt opted for a Mono Rain Jacket to keep the breeze off and went down the MET Trenta route when it came to helmet choice. The Trenta MIPS in an Undyed White Limited Edition colourway was a good option, especially when paired with Quoc Mono II Road Shoes. Finishing the ensemble off was a pair of Oakley Sutro Lite Sunglasses.
