Description
Rotor have never shied away from their goal of maximum performance at its weight level, and the Rotor 3D+ MAS Crankset certainly builds on this.
Increasingly the market is becoming flooded with carbon options that are attractive in terms of weight, but not so much for performance. Rotor have not let this influence them, so have opted for a 100% aluminium construction. They have however utilised a new 7055 alloy for superb rigidity.
Having said this, do not think you are stuck with a heavy crankset as this offering is still lighter than most high end carbon options. This is thanks to the stunning, lighter and refined version of Trinity drilling system. Trinity drilling puts three full-depth holes, but leaves behind a boxtrellised structure, resembling that of box bridges. In terms of the ride, this gives you a phenomenal stiffness to weight ratio for superb performance.
Rotor have even gone out of their way to make your life easier with the revolutionary aluminium UBB30 axle. This means you can upgrade a huge number of bikes with these 3D30 Cranks. Their compatibility covers BSA (68 & 73), ITA, BB86, BBB89, BB92, BB30, BB386 evo and BBRight bikes.
Another issue Rotor has overcome is that of balance. Twin Leg Concept (TLC) gives you the optimum in balanced cranksets. Furthermore, these cranks feature Appropriate Light Weight Material Application (ALMA) to keep them at a impressive 485 g (170 mm) considering the solidity of the design.
Finally, they tackled the issue of getting your rings angled for your riding by coming up with the new Micro Adjust Spider (MAS). This features alternative bolt hole placement allowing for intermediate positions between existing OCP (Optimum Chainring Position) of the Q-Ring. A standard crank in combination with the OCP of the Q-Rings, allows approximately 5 degrees of adjustment. Using Q-rings with this crankset allows for half positions giving approximately 2,5 degrees. This means that you can micro adjust the position of your Q rings, to suit your riding style.
Kit this crankset out with 110 or 130 BCD (depending on which option you go for), oval or round chainrings and start tearing apart the opposition.
